Drug giant Pfizer failed to tell doctors and their patients its blockbuster cholesterol drug sometimes causes memory loss and severe nerve damage, according to two new lawsuits.
In a pair of suits filed last night in New York State Supreme Court, the plaintiffs allege they suffered substantial side effects as a result of their faithful use of Lipitor.
Prescribed for so-called “bad” cholesterol – also known as low-density lipoproteins, believed to be the root of heart disease – Lipitor has been one of the most profitable drug releases in pharmaceutical history.
Last year, New York- based Pfizer reported sales of Lipitor hit $12 billion.
